About the certification

Privacy by design is an approach that takes into account the privacy of a consumer throughout the design and development of the product, considering the entire product lifecycle - from before it is placed on the market, through purchase and use by consumers, to the final end of life phase when all instances of that product finally stop being used.

The term “Privacy by Design” was originally used by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada. The framework consists of “7 foundational principles” that emphasize the need to be proactive in considering privacy requirements at the design phase (or earlier) throughout the entire PII lifecycle.

The ISO 31700 establishes high-level requirements for privacy by design to protect privacy throughout the lifecycle of a consumer product, including data processed by the consumer.
The Privacy by Design Foundation (ISO 31700) is a certification intended for IT professionals seeking to validate their knowledge of Privacy by Design in accordance with the international standard ISO 31700.
